Privacy Policy
ClimaAI is a free weather app. It has no ads, no trackers, and no third-party analytics SDKs. This page describes everything the app collects, everything it deliberately does not, and how to remove your data.
What we collect
Location — used only to fetch forecasts. Your coordinates are sent to weather data providers (and to the ClimaAI server, when it is used for multi-source forecasts) so they can return the weather for where you are. You can deny the location permission entirely and search for places by name instead. We do not build a history of where you have been: forecast readings our server caches are keyed to coordinates, not to you.
Account details — only if you choose to register. An account is optional; every feature of the app works without one. If you register, we store your email address, your password (as a bcrypt hash — never in plain text), an optional display name, your unit and notification preferences, your saved favourite locations, and a device push token if you enable notifications. That is the complete list.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers — there are no ads.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind.
- No contacts, photos, files, or anything else on your device.
- No payment information — there is nothing to buy.
- No location history tied to your identity.
We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with anyone for marketing.
Third-party services
To show you weather, the app sends coordinates only (never your identity) to the data sources it queries:
- Weather providers — Open-Meteo, MET Norway, the US National Weather Service, and the other sources credited in the app's Settings screen.
- RainViewer — receives map tile coordinates to render the precipitation radar.
- Nominatim (© OpenStreetMap contributors) — receives the place names you type into location search.
Each of these sees a network request from your device, which necessarily includes your IP address, as with any internet service. None of them receives your email or any account information.
Retention
- No account: we hold no personal data about you at all. Cached forecast data on your device stays on your device.
- With an account: your data is kept only while the account exists. Deleting your account permanently removes the account record and everything attached to it — saved locations, device tokens, alert history, and any subscription records — in one operation. There is no soft-delete and no retention window.
Deleting your data
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account (asks you to confirm twice, then deletes immediately). Details, including the API route this calls, are on the account deletion page.
Security
- All traffic between the app and the server uses HTTPS.
- Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; we cannot read them.
- Sessions use short-lived signed tokens (JWT).
Children
ClimaAI is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can view and change your account details in the app, and delete the account entirely in the app. If you are covered by the GDPR, CCPA, or a similar law, you also have the rights those laws grant (access, correction, deletion, portability, objection); email us to exercise any of them and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date at the top.
